Educational Goals
Children learn at their own pace, react and develop in different ways and with this in mind the timetable is varied and flexible. We begin in the Nursery, with essential play whilst individual assignments are given to the upper age range so that they may grow to experience a feeling of independence, self discipline and awareness of time.
We offer a broad range of activities through which young children can develop skills, concept and attitudes:
- sand/water play
- creative play
- construction and 3D play
- imaginative and role play
- physical play
The Early Years Unit offers:
- play experience
- mathematical experiences
- language and literacy
- exploration and topical experiences
- art and craft
- music and movement
- PE and games
- singing and percussion
- computer games
The curriculum is based on the Dept for Children, Schools and Families standards for children from birth to five - the Early Years Foundation Stage. At Sunrise we aim to teach children to become skilled and familiar with simple school routine, enabling them to embrace the next stage in their education with confidence, success and, of course, with happy memories of 'Sunrise'.
At the end of each term, Sunrise has an 'Open Evening'. This is simply a chance for parents to have a look around the nursery at the activities that the children have experienced and taken part in and for staff to update them on their child's development. We provide the opportunity for parents to have a 'fly on the wall' look at their children's activities through photographs taken throughout the term. Observations and developmental progress are recorded in a 'My Unique Story' which creates a picture of the child's time spent within the setting - the 'My Unique Story' can then be shared if the child moves to another setting or when they start school.
