Typical Day

The Nursery and Early Years day is planned to contain a variety of activities and play opportunities, which reflect the topic or theme that is being followed for the term.  We value parent support and participation, therefore, we regularly communicate with parents via Notice Boards and Newsletters confirming topic and general information.

During the day the children operate as a whole class, in small groups and as individuals.  There are opportunities for energetic and active play, calm and reflective play as well as directed play and free choice.

There is a morning break and we take the children outside to play, weather permitting. The Nursery and Early Years morning finishes at 12.15, some children go home and the remaining children have a two-course hot lunch.  We encourage children to try new tastes whilst supporting their mealtime skills.

The afternoon session finishes at 3.15, some children are collected at this time whilst the remaining children prepare to have tea.  We offer a variety of tea food which include sandwiches, fruit, yoghurt and cakes.

The Baby & Toddler Unit join together in the morning and enjoy 'circle time'. The children then use their separate playrooms to provide age-appropriate activities. The personal needs of young babies are prioritised and a variety of age appropriate play is provided each day. The Baby & Toddler units join together again for outside playtime, mealtimes and music sessions. Our cot room allows for children to sleep during the course of the day; sleeping children are monitored regularly by staff.

Activities within the Toddler unit are planned to encourage personal, social and physical development.  Story time and group games develop vocabulary, concentration and imagination and "messy play" allows expression. Staff are available to support parents through the demands of  "toilet training" and "toddler tantrums".

The morning session finishes at 11.45; some children are collected and the remaining children stay for lunch.  We have the facilities to prepare our meals for those babies who are weaned or reheat meals that have been brought from home.

'Sleep Mats' are available for Toddler children who still require a daytime sleep.

All children have security in simple routine; caring, friendly staff are available to support and enable children as they play and achieve new skills.
